Week 28: Fifty workers from Ístak at Kárahnjúkar
Wednesday July 16. 2008
Prenta textann

About 50 workers from Icelandic contractor Ístak are at the Kárahnjúkar site working on various projects. A handrail has been constructed along the main dam although the public is not allowed to go to the edge of the dam. The road along the dam however has been opened for those curious to drive along it.   Climbers from Austria are installing safety netting in the canyon walls beneath the main dam. The netting is supposed to increase the safety of those workers who are doing concrete work in the bottom of the canyon.

Inside the Jökulsárgöng tunnel concrete work was carried out as areas were vehicles were able to turn around inside the tunnel will now be closed off behind thick concrete walls.
