Halfway to go at the Grjótárgöng tunnel

At the end of week 27 the workers at the Grjótárgöng tunnel were almost halfway there, having dug 800 metres of the total 1665. The progress of the project can be seen on the drawing on the right.

The project has been successful and water leakage is at a minimum. Last week shotcrete operations continued in the Jökulsárgöng tunnel.

Wavebreakers were completed in the southernmost part of the Kelduárstífla dam and a protective layer that was added to the filling core in the fall to shield it from frost damage was removed. Some 9400 cubic metres of filling material were added to the dam.

Concrete work was carried out at the Intake of the Kelduárgöng tunnel and workers from the Slovenian contractor Montavar worked at the outlet as well as in the equipment halls at the bottom outlet of the Ufsarstífla dam.
