Week 30: Tourists show great interest in the Kárahnjúkar project

Many visitors came to the Kárahnjúkar area in July, more than was expected even. The Hálslón reservoir and the dams obviously attract tourists and the staff on site has remarked on how the visitors seem enthusiastic and positive the majority of the guests have been.

Week 29: The Impregilo camp is disapearing

Workers from the Italian contractor Impregilo are currently taking down the main camp at Kárahnjúkar erected five years ago. Icelandic contractor Ístak is at the same time busy in the canyon below the main dam were a conduit will be built that will catch the water falling from the spillway.

Week 28: Fifty workers from Ístak at Kárahnjúkar

About 50 workers from Icelandic contractor Ístak are at the Kárahnjúkar site working on various projects. A handrail has been constructed along the main dam although the public is not allowed to go to the edge of the dam. The road along the dam however has been opened for those curious to drive along it.

Week 27: Halfway to go at the Grjótárgöng tunnel

At the end of week 27 the workers at the Grjótárgöng tunnel were almost halfway there, having dug 800 metres of the total 1665. The progress of the project can be seen on the drawing on the right.
